The Tivoli PAL (Portable Audio Lab), is the most popular model in the Tivoli range. PAL makes the perfect gift. Available in a number of colours PAL can be your best friend or keep someone special company where ever they are. Weather proof and sturdy PAL can go all around the house, outside to the garden or travel with you. The high quality re-chargeable battery lasts for hours. But you can plug it into the power anytime and continue to play. Connect your iPod and enjoy your favourite music anywhere, anytime.

"The cute PAL from legendary audio designer Henry Kloss offers arguably the finest sound and reception possible from a portable radio.". – House & Garden, March 2003

Where does that great sound come from?

Tivoli’s PAL radio is in a field of one. A portable version of the critically acclaimed Model One the PAL is small but the sound rich and full. The 2.5 inch magnetically shielded driver can play surprisingly loud without distortion. The finely geared analogue tuning dial is the same used in the Model One and makes for easy and accurate tuning.

Unique tuning ability

A special PAL feature is it’s 'automatic frequency control' which locks onto the center of the station for the best reception and lowest distortion. We find in New Zealand PAL is particularly good at grabbing signals so is the best model to opt for in difficult reception areas (that is as long as there is some reception). The telescopic FM tuner which extends and rotates is there if required and the AM tuner built–in.

Clever PAL

Apart from it’s obvious mobility the PAL radio has a number of uses. It can be run off 12 volts, useful for motorhomes and boats. It can used as a speaker for just about any source via it’s 3.5 input. You can enjoy quiet listening through headphones or use the headphone stereo output to run your PAL into your main music system as a radio tuner. Interestingly the sound is so accurate we have a number of PALs out there working as speakers. The Zoology Department of the University of Otago use them to study frogs! Farmers listen to them in their tractors, teenagers adore them, sport fans take them to cricket to listen to the commentary while watching the game. Everyone loves their PAL!

Generations ahead

Henry Kloss Advent radio

In 1967 Henry Kloss founded the Advent company, one of a few he was involved with during his 40 year career. Under Advent Henry developed the acclaimed 'Advent radio'. Over 30 years later came the his PAL radio – you can see the resemblance. Tivoli Audio was founded in 2000 and first came the Model One followed by the PAL. So the PAL radio is a fusion of modern technology and years of experience and development.

A few thoughts on the PAL radio...

"Tivoli Audio’s PAL…simply works so well and sounds so good." – Alan Loftt, Sound & Vision, January 2001

"This unique carry-along AM/FM radio packs a lot of audio punch into a compact musical brick. Also striking is the pin-point-precise manual tuner – the PAL brings in stations better than any other portable on the market, effectively fending off noise and interference across the AM and FM bands." – Steve Morgenstern, Cigar Aficionado, June 2003

"For a portable outdoor speaker, you want something rugged and loud with an epic battery life. The PAL lasts up to 16 hours and it’s 2.5” speaker provides the sound of a much larger one." – GQ, June 2005

"Good friends are hard to come by, but radio lovers may want to get acquainted with Tivoli Audio’s PAL." – Sound & Vision, October 2002

"The PAL radio designed by Henry Kloss is a portable alternative to his popular Model One." – The New York Times, May 2005
