All about the new Cambridge 752BD.
This may well be the last silver disc player you ever consider buying - there is that much that it can do to a very high standard and it incorporates an almost bewildering array of upgradable paths for both audio and video media of every description and standard. The earlier Cambridge Blu-ray player - the well proven Azur 751 BD - was a highly capable multi-format player. But the 752 works on another level again. It has become a central hub with multiple inputs, state of the art video and audio processing and full control over output - including volume. It essentially replaces the conventional BluRay/reciever option and allows you more flexibility and higher performance. Especially when combined with our new generation power amplifiers from both Rotel and Nuforce.
The complexity of a machine like the 752 is nicely balanced by the thought Cambridge Audio have put into making it easy to use - even if we disregard all the video playback abilities, it's a fantastic music player.
The 752BD, even with all the improvements over earlier models is just NZ$1199 and carries Cambridge's 2 year warranty.
Upgrades include
Playback of audio and video files from UPnP/DLNA servers. Can be controlled by an app such as PlugPlayer.
Mobile High-definition Link
The front panel HDMI input also supports MHL.
Mobile High-definition Link (MHL) can be used to connect to a mobile device is such as a cell phone or a digital camcorder, so play high quality audio and video content back through the 752BD.
2D to 3D scaling and 4K scaling
The twin HDMI outputs can be separately configured to send 4K or 3D video from one output to a compatible display, and HD audio to an AV Receiver from the other output.
Inputs
As digital hub, there are 11 different audio and video sources that can be played through the 752BD
1. Disc playback
2. HDMI input 1/MHL
3. HDMI input 2
4. Network connection (playback from UPnP/DLNA servers)
5. SPDIF audio input - ideal for mySky
6. Optical audio input - perfect for Apple TV or Airport Express
7. USB input 1 - for direct computer connection or sticks
8. USB input 2
9. USB input 3
10. ARC* from TV (HDMI 1)
11. ARC from TV (HDMI 2)
All digital audio inputs are upsampled to 24/192 by ATF, and video inputs are scaled up to 1080p (and/or 3D/4K) by the Marvell processor
*ARC. For extra convenience, Audio Return Channel (ARC) allows the audio signal from a connected TV to be sent to the 752BD – rather than having to use a separate audio output from the TV.
Now here's a really big improvement - the 752 now has Internal volume control. When this feature is enabled, the analogue outputs (7.1 and 2.0) become variable and can be controlled using the 752BD remote control. This means that the 752BD can be connected directly to a power amplifier or active speakers for a simple, cost effective and great sounding system.
As if this isn't enough there is also a new backlit remote control. Selectable digital filters (Linear, Minimum and Steep) can now be selected from the remote control, not just the front panel. And even better DVD playback with DVD 24P output: DVD's can be output in 24 frames per second, to reflect the manner in which many recent releases were filmed. This offers a smoother image than the standard 60Hz representation.
Yet more detail! And even a short video presentation.
It's a tribute to Cambridge Audio that they are so open about their designs and we really appreciate that. No to mention that they are just as good as they say in terms of support and making software upgrades readily available, because if there is one thing we know in the world of video and surround sound formats - change is inevitable.
No other universal disc player out there combines all these attributes - up to the minute technology, serious build quality backed by a real 2 year warranty, stable distribution with fair pricing and above all else, a real commitment to great sound. As we say, it's highly likely you’ll never have to buy another disc player so why not make it a goodie!
