Living Every Moment
We’ve been deeply affected by the recent passing of one of our clients - Leo Jankowski. His love of music was a significant part of his life. Leo’s audio system was like him, something special. With components from Meridian, Perreaux, Thorens and Image, it was built up over time, set up and modified with a rare passion. Being part of a small community Leo was known to a good many of our clients, both in person and through internet forums. Those who got to listen to his system - and he was always generous with his time and enthusiasm - were taken by how the sound matched his descriptions with space and accuracy. He enjoyed a broad range of music and easily passed this on to other people while still being able to appreciate their diverse tastes. We always enjoyed dealing with him and it seems appropriate to be able to help other people find the same enjoyment in music that Leo did.
But like all of our clients there was much more to Leo than a hi-fi system - he was a loving father and husband and contributed greatly to the wider community. This was made clear to us in his last few days and at his funeral. One of Leo’s little projects a few years ago was fund raising for the Otago Community Hospice - we even sold a few discs at the time on his behalf to help. Leo would never have thought for a minute that he’d get anything back from his work for the Hospice, but the irony of him ending up there has triggered a desire on our part to make something good come of the loss, both to his family and to the community he contributed so greatly to.
Many people in Dunedin and Otago are directly touched by the work done by the Hospice - it might be something we don’t really think about, but few people wouldn’t be able to find some connection to the Hospice. As well as having known other Hospice patients we personally know some staff members. We have nothing but admiration for their dedication and care - so we’ve got a reasonable insight into the work done there, but also the desperate need for resources.
We will admit to a deep frustration that organizations such as the Hospice struggle for funds, while our local council engages in profligate spending on projects that provide little real benefit to the community as a whole. The Hospice stands in stark contrast, helping the most vulnerable and their families through difficult times without making demands. The council is deaf to this but we are not - and we also know that most of our clients are very much aware of what really matters. So let’s all get together and do something good.
This is how we plan to help.
This June we will promote a special sale centered around the Hospice. A worthwhile percentage of the proceeds of all sales for the month will be donated to the Hospice. The more we sell, the more we help the Hospice. But you’ll get something out of this too. All our stock will be reduced in price - some items by considerable amounts - literally in the thousands. Our suppliers have also been invited to contribute, either directly, or in terms of special offers exclusive to the Hospice promotion.
For full listings of all the items on sale get the catalogue here.
This is a very special chance for everyone. Our first priority is to help the Hospice. But we also want to bring Leo’s enjoyment of music to many more people. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a little Tivoli Radio, or the state of the art Meridian loudspeakers that Leo always had his eye on, the sale prices will give you a singular chance to buy, save, enjoy and contribute in one moment. And of course you’ll be well aware that Totally Wired just never normally has sales. This really is a one off.
Even if you don’t choose to buy during the sale month, why not consider a small contribution to help the hospice directly
