For Record Lovers
If you want to rediscover records, or invigorate an existing turntable based system we have some great analogue options for you. Enjoy great sounding record players from Well Tempered Labs and Pro-Ject. Match these with phono cartridges from Dynavector and Nagaoka, phono stages from Well Tempered, Dynavector, Pure Audio and Cambridge Audio. And fine tune your record playing system with a carefully selected range of dedicated analogue cables, accessories and cleaners.
Going to a better cartridge on your turntable is an obvious route to better sound. The new Nagaoka MM cartridges & styli are the culmination of over 70 years of continuous development from this highly esteemed manufacturer who makes all aspects in–house. So music enthusiasts can have ultimate enjoyment in their listening. The new Nagaoka MP (Moving Permalloy), series cartridges are ultra light weight for transparent and accurate transmission of sound. Prices range from NZ$ 130 to NZ$ 480.
Dynavector moving coils are the ones to beat – they are continually improved and refined delivering state of the art performance.
Nagaoka also produce make very good anti–static record sleeves. A must for much loved record collections. Pack of 50 for NZ$ 65. These are a simple way of caring for much loved vinyl. Paper sleeves shed dust and poly ethylene sleeves stick to the record so as you pull it out dust may scratch the vinyl. Nagaoka antistatic sleeves solve these issues and are slippery enough to allow you to remove your record with total safety. As soon as you try these you’ll notice the difference in ease of use and in the cleanliness of your vinyl.
Also worth having are anti-static carbon fibre record cleaning brushes NZ$ 30.
The connection between turntable and phono stage (or amp) is also critical. It’s important that the cable is well shielded to eliminate hum and noise. The new cables and plugs from Keith Louis Eichmann Innovations are by far the best we’ve heard in our many years of turntable listening.“Analogue enthusiasts will be thrilled to find that these interconnects are really quiet and hence perfect for direct connection to turntables and phono stages.” For those with attached cables fitting the KLEI Harmony Bullet plugs will give a vast improvement. We stock and recommend the ultra quiet Mogami Negelx cables which can be made to any length by order – these are a worthwhile upgrade for many turntable models, around NZ$ 200.
Amplifiers that do cool stuff
We’re thrilled to bring you a range of ultra high performance components from the smartest company we've ever dealt with. NuForce redefine what a modern hifi system will look and sound like - all digital, sleek and a joy to own. An offshoot of the NuForce brand, NuPrime is a new and independent company whose purpose is to carry on in the celebrated tradition of the NuForce high-end product line with performance that is nothing short of astonishing.
The new Quad 'Vena' integrated amplifier is both completely modern and affordable, yet pure Quad. When a pre-production version arrived on our doorstep it turned out to be the highlight of our year. The NuForce DDA-100 provided a completely new standard for purist and affordable digital amplification last year (and is still the amplifier to beat at it's price level). The Quad takes everything we love about NuForce and makes it even better, with more inputs, both digital and analogue, extremely capable wireless via inbuilt BlueTooth and a sound that is both detailed and rich.
Monitor Audio Bronze speakers
For 40 years Monitor Audio have relentlessly worked to perfect loudspeaker design that matches fine performance with specified budgets. The new Bronze series are several steps ahead of their award winning ‘BX’ predecessors. Monitor Audio again sets the bar higher for home audio with an affordable range that will work brilliantly with your electronics whether for music or home theatre. From NZ$ 600 a pair.
Or perhaps Monitor Audio’s Radius range would appeal. Physically compact but not in sound, the Radius speakers are a very compelling proposition. Ideal for modern day living this versatile range includes stereo speakers, home cinema, TV sound bars and sub woofers – all finished in a luxurious high gloss piano black or white lacquer. You could call the Radius speakers 'life-style' audio yet little else that may fall into this category could match their sound quality. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the full sound and performance of these speakers given their compact size and these new versions are quite astounding.
